NOA, EFCC partner to tackle cybercrime
In a joint effort to tackle the growing menace of virtual asset and investment fraud, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have announced plans to embark on a nationwide sensitisation campaign to educate Nigerians on the dangers of cybercrime and foster a culture of financial integrity.
Speaking at a public lecture commemorating the African Union Anti-Corruption Day, hosted by the EFCC, NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, disclosed that the agency is proposing the rollout of a comprehensive Digital Awareness Campaign in strategically selected states across the country. The states will be chosen based on key vulnerability indicators such as high incidences of investment fraud, youth population density, and digital risk exposure.
Issa-Onilu also announced a new youth-focused initiative aimed at promoting ethical entrepreneurship, financial responsibility, and informed decision-making among young Nigerians, who remain particularly vulnerable to online scams and get-rich-quick schemes.
He further highlighted the agency’s contribution to the fight against societal crimes through its AI-powered platform, CLHEEAN, which allows citizens to report crime-related information directly to the relevant security agencies for prompt action.
In his remarks, EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, praised the longstanding collaboration between the Commission and the NOA, particularly in public enlightenment campaigns. He also called on Nigerians to support law enforcement efforts in combating financial crimes.
The event also featured key figures, including the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Dr. Emomotimi Agama; the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Hussaini Ishaq Magaji; and representatives from the Women Society of Nigeria and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
