Harrison Wachira tragically lost his life on Monday, July 7, during the chaotic Saba Saba Day protests.
Wachira was shot in the neck by police officers, who then dragged his body in what appeared to be an attempt to conceal evidence.
The deceased's family, after receiving postmortem results, spoke to , confirming their worst fears.
"The autopsy results show Wachira died from being shot. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) was present and promised to follow up on the case," a family member said.
A heartbreaking video of Wachira, originally from Nyeri county, being dragged without dignity on that dramatic day went viral, leaving many Kenyans heartbroken.
He was dragged across the road by a police officer after being shot dead during the violent protests.
Many watched helplessly as the inhumane act unfolded before their eyes, some recording the gory moment.
"The burial will be held next week Friday. Funeral services and prayers are ongoing in Nyeri Town at his grandmother’s home in the Grogon area, opposite Jarder building. He will be laid to rest in Ndaragua (Magutu), Kieni constituency.
Any aid or assistance can be channeled through 0711581733, Evelyn Wangui Mwangi, the sister of the deceased," the family member added.
Kenyans expressed frustration over how the police handled civilians and directed their anger toward the government.
Salome Nthenya:
"Let’s pray, Kenyans. Why can’t you open your eyes and see? This fight is not by weapons or might. We shall only win through prayer."
Izzy Arakal:
"We will overcome this. How can trained police shoot unarmed civilians? This is unconstitutional."
Bernard Oyugi:
"I ask myself, if I were a police officer, could I do the things I see these officers doing? Truly, I doubt I would lose my humanity."
Asbornic Acid:
"Some comments from our Nilotic cousins are really shocking. We're talking about life here, life given by God. How can someone just allow it to be taken away with no remorse or sympathy? It pains me."
Mrs. Eveleen Mitei:
"When the uniform meant to protect becomes a death sentence, justice isn’t optional, it’s urgent. Dragging a lifeless body is not just brutality, it’s a national shame.
How many more names must become hashtags before humanity returns to law enforcement?"
Magdalene Ochieng:
"No one deserves to be killed or humiliated, even in death. What’s happening should awaken us to rise up and fight against atrocities, murders, and excessive taxation. Kenya is ours!"
