The Niger State Police Command has recovered 900 bags of cement, valued at over N9 million, suspected to have been diverted from its delivery route, and secured the conviction of one of the suspects involved in the theft.

According to a statement from the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the cement was intercepted on April 5, 2025, around 9:30 a.m. by a police surveillance patrol team attached to the Bosso Division.

Acting on credible intelligence, the team stopped a trailer truck with registration number NDG 161 XA at Garima Junction in Bosso. The truck, loaded with cement from Obajana in Kogi State, was initially bound for Maiduguri, Borno State.

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the truck had been criminally diverted to Garima Bosso with the intent to sell the cement.

One suspect, Abdullahi Basiru from Sokoto State, was arrested at the scene. During interrogation, Basiru confessed to being the motor boy to the driver, Ibrahim Yusuf, who remains at large.

He further admitted that he and the driver, in conspiracy with another accomplice, planned to sell the cement and abandon the truck.

Basiru was arraigned in court on April 9, 2025, for criminal conspiracy and theft. He was found guilty and sentenced to 10 months in prison without the option of a fine.

The recovered cement truck has been returned to the company through a court order, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing driver continue.
