Nigel Farage's Startling Riches Revealed: £2 Million Income Since Becoming MP

Nigel Farage, since his election as an MP for Clacton in July 2024, has amassed an extraordinary external income of over £2 million, supplementing his parliamentary salary. This significant earning power places him among a select group of MPs, drawing comparisons to figures like Boris Johnson, who secured approximately £5 million outside his MP's salary in the months following his resignation as prime minister.
A major point of contention and scrutiny centers on a £5 million gift Farage received from Reform UK's mega-donor, Christopher Harborne, prior to the 2024 general election. The Guardian's revelation last week that Farage did not declare this gift sparked widespread criticism, raising questions about potential violations of parliamentary rules. Farage has consistently maintained that the money was an “unconditional, non-political, personal gift” intended to cover his security costs, asserting that there was no obligation to declare it. However, both Labour and Conservative parties have voiced strong criticism regarding the non-disclosure. A senior, anonymous Reform member expressed frustration, stating that while Farage is a “rock star” facing genuine security threats, the lack of declaration was a “disappointing distraction” that could have been avoided.
Public opinion polls reflect widespread concern over the gift. A Survation poll for 38 Degrees indicated that 68% of the British public harbored concerns that the gift could grant Harborne “inappropriate influence” over Farage’s political decisions. Internally, the news of the £5 million gift has created a “paranoid vibe” within Reform HQ, with staffers describing a climate of fear regarding high-level moles and individuals being “pulled aside for interrogation” about how the Guardian obtained the information. The Electoral Commission is currently investigating a complaint lodged by the Conservative party regarding the money. Parliamentary rules stipulate that any benefits received within 12 months before taking office should be declared, particularly if there is any doubt about their political or personal nature.
Farage’s financial success extends beyond this controversial gift. His principal employer outside parliament has been the right-wing broadcaster GB News, which has paid him £700,000 since July 2024, with an additional £40,662 registered just last week. Other income streams include a reported £50,000 annually from a Daily Telegraph column and approximately £400,000 a year from his nightly GB News show, which began in 2021. His finances saw a significant upturn around 2023, notably with a reported £1.5 million fee for appearing on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. He also received a six-figure settlement from Coutts private bank after being debanked over his political views. His diverse earning activities include speeches, writing news articles, promoting gold bullion for Direct Bullion (earning at least £400,000 since becoming an MP), and even recording modestly priced Cameo clips for fans. He also invested £215,000 in a crypto venture called Stack BTC.
This substantial income facilitates a lavish lifestyle marked by near-constant travel. Farage utilizes a large entourage of security operatives, travels in distinctive black vehicles, and frequently uses helicopters for his extensive campaign tours, often outpacing other political leaders. Figures from last year indicated he dedicated about 22 hours per week to additional employment outside his MP duties. His enjoyment of hospitality and trips has exceeded £250,000 since entering parliament, including at least ten trips to the US funded by GB News and donors, tickets to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix worth £9,000, and a £50,000 ticket to the World Economic Forum at Davos paid for by Iranian-Kazakh billionaire Sasan Ghandehari.
Farage's property portfolio has also expanded considerably since his 2017 declaration of being
