New Queen of Country? Ella Langley Shatters Records Alongside Beyoncé & Taylor Swift!

Ella Langley has achieved a remarkable feat on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, seizing both the No. 1 and No. 2 positions simultaneously as of the chart dated March 14. Her hit single, “Choosin’ Texas,” maintains its dominance for a 15th consecutive week at the top, while “Be Her” makes a significant ascent to the second spot.

During the tracking week of February 27 to March 5, “Choosin’ Texas” garnered impressive numbers, including 21.9 million official U.S. streams, a substantial 44.1 million in radio airplay audience, and 6,000 units sold, according to Luminate data. Concurrently, “Be Her” tallied 11.8 million streams, reached 29.2 million in radio airplay, and sold 2,000 units, just three weeks after its debut at No. 3. This marks Langley’s seventh entry into the Hot Country Songs top 10, signaling a strong run for the Alabama native. Both acclaimed tracks are featured on her upcoming second LP, “Dandelion,” which is slated for release on April 10.

“Choosin’ Texas” has already set multiple milestones. In February, it made history by becoming the first song to concurrently top three major Billboard charts: Country Airplay, Hot Country Songs, and the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. It further solidified its impact by returning to the Hot 100’s summit when Megan Moroney debuted at No. 1 on Top Country Albums with “Cloud 9” on March 7. This historic alignment marked the first instance where two women, primarily recording country music, led these prominent charts in the same week.

The song's influence also extended to the Country Airplay chart, where it reclaimed the No. 1 position after a three-week absence. This gap is the longest before a song successfully reclaims the top spot since the chart's inception in 1990, underscoring its sustained popularity and enduring appeal.

By securing the top two positions on Hot Country Songs, Ella Langley joins an exceptionally exclusive group of artists. She is only the third woman to achieve this distinction, following in the footsteps of music titans Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. Beyoncé accomplished this in April 2024 during the debut chart week for her album “Cowboy Carter,” when “Texas Hold ’Em” led and “II Most Wanted,” featuring Miley Cyrus, debuted at No. 2. Taylor Swift achieved a similar feat in October 2012 during the rollout of her album “Red,” with “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” at No. 1 and the title track debuting at No. 2.

Overall, Langley is the ninth artist in the chart’s history to simultaneously control the top two positions. This illustrious list also includes solo male artists such as Buck Owens, Willie Nelson, Luke Bryan, and Morgan Wallen, along with duos Florida Georgia Line and Dan + Shay. Among all acts who have held Nos. 1 and 2 concurrently across 64 chart weeks, Morgan Wallen holds a significant majority, accounting for 37 of those instances.

Prior to 2012, before the advent of music streaming profoundly reshaped consumption patterns, this rare feat occurred in only five distinct weeks. These earlier achievements were credited to Buck Owens in 1964 with his pair of hits “Together Again” and “My Heart Skips a Beat,” and to Willie Nelson in the early 1980s with “Always on My Mind” and “Just to Satisfy You” featuring Waylon Jennings.
