The Government, through Mafinga Town Council in Mufindi District, Iringa Region, will soon begin building a modern bus terminal at a cost of Sh20 billion under the Tanzania Cities Transforming Infrastructure and Competitiveness (Tactic) project.

Chairman of the Town Council, Mr Regnant Kivinge, revealed this during the ordinary quarterly council meeting for the third quarter of the 2024/2025 financial year held recently in Mafinga.

Mr Kivinge said feasibility studies and architectural designs for the terminal, which will be located in the Kinyanambo area of Mafinga town, have been completed.

“Mafinga Town Council is among 18 councils nationwide selected to benefit from the third phase of the Tactic project, which aims to improve public service delivery, uplift the economic status of low-income citizens, and strengthen institutional capacity,” he said.

The councillors also passed a resolution commending the government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan for its progress in implementing development projects locally and nationally.

Between 2021 and 2025, the council collected over Sh23 billion in internal revenues, which have supported several community projects, including construction of schools and health facilities.

“We have built eight new primary and secondary schools, such as Itimbo, Mgodi, Sao Hill, and Amali vocational secondary school in Changarawe, funded by the central government,” Mr Kivinge said.

Using internally generated funds, the council also constructed health centres at Bumilayinga, Ifingo, Upendo, and a dispensary at Kikombo.

Meanwhile, the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (Tarura) in Mufindi faces challenges in road project implementation, including damage caused by overloaded timber trucks and encroachment on road reserves.

Acting Tarura District Manager, Mr Simon Karungu, reported that insufficient budgets also hinder efficiency.

“We call for stronger collaboration between government, citizens, and stakeholders to improve and maintain roads for all,” Mr Karungu said.
