Gachagua Alleges Murder Plot, Priest Who Hosted Him Found Dead

Recent events in Kenya have sparked concerns over political tensions and alleged threats to prominent figures. Father John Maina Ndegwa, head of Igwamiti Catholic Parish in Nyandarua, was found dead after a suspected hijacking and assault. His body was discovered by the roadside in Gilgil, Nakuru county, approximately 50 kilometers from his parish. Maina had recently hosted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at a parish event just weeks before his death. His vehicle, a Subaru Forester, remains missing, and investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the killing, including potential links to political events or criminal activity.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made serious allegations, claiming his life is in danger. Gachagua alleges that President William Ruto, through Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, sanctioned a plot to arrest him using a specialized police unit. He claims this unit intended to plant weapons in his convoy to fabricate charges. Additionally, Gachagua alleges a separate group of officers trained in biological weapons planned to expose him to airborne chemicals designed to paralyse his brain within three months. Gachagua also claims his private security detail is set to be withdrawn under President Ruto's orders, leaving him vulnerable. He compared his situation to that of the late Kenneth Matiba, who suffered after being detained during the Moi regime, and has called for an investigation into these claims.

Gachagua has faced condemnation for remarks regarding the 2027 elections and warnings against potential post-election violence, which he claims were taken out of context. He insists his statements were meant to emphasize the need for proper election management. He has also warned against political intolerance, citing violent attacks at the launch of his Democracy for the Citizens Party. He accuses President Ruto of using the criminal justice system to settle political scores. Others, including Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya, have also had run-ins with the police.
