ILLINOIS — Humidity will build back into the Chicago area mid-week, and push heat index values closer to 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There are also several chances for storms in the forecast this week.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will all be humid, with daily storm chances during that mid-week stretch. There is a limited thunderstorm risk on Tuesday; and an elevated storm risk with a level 1 of 5 severe storm risk on Wednesday and Thursday.
The weather service said isolated storms are possible Tuesday afternoon south of Interstate 80.
Then, showers and storms are expected Wednesday, Wednesday night and Thursday, the weather service said. There is a potential for severe storms capable of producing damaging winds, as well as a risk of local torrential rainfall.
Looking ahead, there is also a limited thunderstorm risk on Saturday and Sunday, according to the weather service.
Monday will have a high of 90, Tuesday a high of 91, Wednesday a high of 91, Thursday a high of 88 and Friday a high of 83 degrees.
"The more humid conditions will invite the potential for thunderstorms to return to the area, particularly Wednesday into Thursday," the weather service said. "Sunny and seasonably warm conditions" are expected Monday, but the rain chances could return as early as Tuesday, according to the weather service.
