Groundwater awareness week starts July 16 in dist | Kanpur News - Times of India
Kanpur: Like previous years, the district administration will observe this year too "Ground water Week" from July 16 to July 22 to increase public awareness towards ground water conservation.District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh in a meeting with officials said that besides the active participation of all departments, local schools, colleges and educational institutions will also take part in the event.He said that integrated development and conservation of groundwater was among the top priorities of the state government. Construction/restoration of ponds for groundwater recharge, construction of check dams and water efficient technologies like drip and sprinkler were being promoted.At the same time, to control uncontrolled exploitation, Uttar Pradesh Groundwater (Management and Regulation) Act 2019 has been effectively implemented, under which the District Groundwater Management Council was constituted in every district, he added.The DM said that as a result of these joint efforts, in the last 7 years, 34 development blocks of the state have overcome water crisis and improvement in ground water level.
This progress shows the success of the government's efforts towards ground water conservation.He informed that Jal Shakti Abhiyan-VI has been launched on March 22 with the theme "Water Conservation Public Participation--Towards Public Awareness". It aims to effectively promote works like construction of artificial structures for rainwater harvesting, revival of water bodies and rejuvenation of rivers. "If water is safe then tomorrow is safe" has been made the main theme of this year's Groundwater Week, Singh said.
He directed all the departments concerned to effectively organize programs between July 16 to July 22.
