Nashville weather: National Weather Service issues flood advisory for Middle Tennessee
This story has been updated with new information.
The Storm Prediction Center has included parts of Middle Tennessee in a severe weather risk ahead of significant rainfall events this week. The National Weather Service is warning of potential flooding and rises in rivers and creeks, especially heading into the weekend.
The region is likely to receive a total of four to seven inches of rain from Tuesday through Sunday, with severe storms possible Saturday and Saturday night.
As of 10:24 a.m. the weather service has reported some localized flooding but widespread flooding is not expected with the initial weather system. Some storms are possible Wednesday; however, the risk of severe storms looks to stay to the south.

Conditions will become drier on Thursday and Friday ahead of a second system which will bring along the potential for flooding and severe storms.
"This weekend is going to be a mess," said the weather service.
Current forecasts point to anywhere between three to five inches of rainfall across the region, occurring early Saturday through Sunday.
A flood watch will likely be needed for this weekend, as this weekend's rainfall will arrive on top of the first rain event, said the weather service.
The weather service anticipates river flooding as well as flash flooding, especially with excessive rainfall rates resulting from individual storms. There is also the potential for a light snow, or at least a wintry mix on Sunday as temperatures plummet.
Here is how much rain is expected for Nashville and the surrounding areas:
According to the weather service, expected rainfall totals are anticipated to end the drought, especially since the greatest amounts will occur where the drought is the worst.
Per the latest drought information statement, the areas experiencing severe drought have been southern Middle Tennessee counties to the Cumberland Plateau and the Tennessee River valley below Knoxville.
"I don't expect there to be much (if any) of the drought remaining by this time next week," said National Weather Service Meteorologist Mark Rose.
