LP Suspends Lagos Chairman

The Lagos State arm of the Labour Party has announced the suspension of its former state Chairman, Pastor Dayo Ekong, and Sam Okpala, citing alleged gross misconduct and breach of the party’s constitution. The announcement was formalized in a statement issued by Rotimi Odunaike, Chairman of the Lagos State Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party, following a Caretaker Executive Committee meeting held on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
According to the Caretaker Committee, all Local Government and Ward Executive Committees in Lagos State appointed by the Pastor (Mrs) Dayo Ekong-led Exco have been dissolved. Members of these committees are also suspended for six months, effective immediately, due to anti-party activities.
The statement explicitly notes, “The former state Chairman of the party, Pastor Mrs Dayo Ekong, is hereby suspended for 6 months for gross misconduct and breach of the constitution of the party by holding the offices of the state chairman and national financial secretary at the same time.” Additionally, “All the members of the erstwhile state executive committee are hereby suspended for six months for failure to uphold the Constitution of the Party and for anti-party activities.”
As of now, Pastor Dayo Ekong and Sam Okpala have not released any official statement regarding their suspension.
