Former Minister Caleb Olubolade Passes Away at 70

Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade, the former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State and a native of Ipoti-Ekiti in Ekiti State, has died at the age of 70. He passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Apapa, Lagos. According to a statement from his children, Oluwayemisi Akinadewo and Dayo Olubolade, the retired officer slumped while playing lawn tennis. He drove himself to the facility and efforts to revive him by medical officers were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital, Apapa.
Olubolade served Nigeria in various capacities, including as the military administrator of Bayelsa State from 1997 to 1998. He also held several ministerial positions under former President Goodluck Jonathan, such as Minister of Special Duties (appointed in 2010), Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Minister of Police Affairs (in 2011). He celebrated his 70th birthday on November 30, 2024.
Family sources indicate that Olubolade, born on November 30, 1954, slumped and died in Lagos while playing lawn tennis. He was rushed to a nearby health facility but could not be revived. The family has stated that burial arrangements will be communicated at a later date. An official message from his family or the Ekiti State Government is still awaited.
