President Tinubu Commended for Commitment to Transforming Nigerian Armed Forces

Air Vice Marshall (AVM) Usman Kandi Abdullahi, the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his dedication to the advancement and transformation of the Nigerian Armed Forces. AVM Abdullahi made these remarks during his welcome address at the Command’s Open Day Visit in Bauchi, an event held as part of the 61st-anniversary celebration of the Nigerian Air Force.

AVM Abdullahi stated that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has consistently benefited from President Tinubu’s unwavering support, highlighting the President’s demonstrated commitment to the development and transformation of the Nigerian Armed Forces. He also recognized the contributions of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal HB Abubakar, whose leadership has been instrumental in enhancing the operational capacity of the NAF. He noted that under Air Marshal Abubakar's leadership, the NAF has seen significant advancements, including the introduction of modern platforms that have enhanced capabilities and improved responses to emerging security threats.

AVM Abdullahi emphasized the significance of the 61st anniversary, noting the NAF’s evolution into a highly professional and effective force critical in defending the nation’s interests. He highlighted the theme of this year’s celebration, “Optimising Civil-Military Relations in a Joint Operational Environment for Enhanced Air Operations,” underscoring the importance of collaboration between military and civil authorities to achieve national objectives. The Open Day Visit, he added, serves as an opportunity to strengthen bonds with host communities, promote understanding and cooperation, and demonstrate the NAF’s commitment to safeguarding the nation and its people.

AVM Abdullahi expressed gratitude to the government and people of Bauchi State for their hospitality, support, and partnership, acknowledging their vital role in the successful operations and presence of the NAF in the region. Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdukadir Mohammed, represented by his Chief Security Adviser, Abdulrahman Ahmed, congratulated the NAF on its anniversary, praising its growth and effectiveness in countering banditry and insurgency. He also advocated for increased surveillance along Bauchi’s borders with Plateau, Gombe, and Taraba States and urged synergy with other security agencies to combat crime.

The anniversary celebration in Bauchi featured visits from school children, career guidance sessions, displays of NAF personnel uniforms, and interactive engagements with NAF units stationed at the base.
