Naira Marley Breaks Silence on Mohbad's Death, Denies Killing or Bullying in Explosive Documentary

Musician Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has finally broken his silence on the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, who died on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. In February, a Magistrate's Court in Yaba, Lagos, acquitted Naira Marley and music promoter Samson Balogun (Sam Larry) of blame, along with Ibrahim Owodunni (Primeboy) and Mohbad's former manager, Babatunde Opere. Conversely, the Coroner's Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, recommended the criminal prosecution of Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who treated Mohbad shortly before his death, citing gross negligence and that her actions were both “unlawful and professionally negligent.” Months after his acquittal, Naira Marley released a video documentary on YouTube, providing his side of the story and addressing the ongoing allegations.

Naira Marley recounted that Mohbad, who joined Marlian Music in 2019 alongside Zinoleesky, began using an illegal substance called 'Ice' by June 7, 2020. Marley claimed he advised Mohbad about the dangers, to which Mohbad responded he used it due to stress and would stop. A financial dispute also arose in November 2020 when Mohbad used a bank account under the name Adesanya Justina Olajumoke, which Marley suspected was linked to Mohbad's wife, Wunmi, a suspicion Wunmi later confirmed.

The narrative continued with a National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) raid on Marlian House on February 24, 2022, leading to the arrest of Zinoleesky, Subomi, and Mohbad, who was taken after a physical altercation with officers. Naira Marley, who was in Sweden at the time, stated that Mohbad went on Instagram Live shortly after his release “under duress” and while having a “panic attack,” accusing Marley and others, including his girl and Zinoleesky, of endangering his life with the statement, “If I die, everybody na Marlian Music, Naira Marley kill me.” Marley described Mohbad as being in a “vulnerable state of psychosis” during this period, even accusing Zinoleesky of being a snitch. Despite these incidents, Mohbad remained with Marlian Music, and Marley noted that Mohbad, his parents, and Wunmi apologized for his actions.

Following the NDLEA incident, Mohbad no longer resided permanently at Marlian House but maintained contact. Naira Marley claimed he made efforts to assist Mohbad, arranging and paying for health checks and various medications upon his return to Nigeria. In a more critical turn, Marley alleged that Mohbad attempted suicide on March 27, 2022, by trying to jump from a window while Marley was in Puerto Rico. Marley intervened via phone, advising Mohbad against taking his own life and offering support. Subsequently, Mohbad spent time with Zinoleesky and his father, an effort to make him happy.

A period of reconciliation seemed to follow, with Mohbad performing at the
