The 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards celebrated major figures in Latin music, honoring Cristian Castro with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his romantic pop legacy. Rubén Blades received the Icon Award for his revolutionary contributions to salsa, while Rosalía was inducted into the Hall of Fame, also winning Top Latin Pop Album for LUX.
The 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards, held on Thursday, October 22, at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, was a night of profound emotions and significant recognitions, celebrating luminaries who have left an indelible mark on Latin music. Broadcast live on Telemundo and Peacock, the ceremony honored Cristian Castro, Rubén Blades, Rosalía, and Fuerza Regida with special accolades, alongside numerous other artists.
Cristian Castro was deeply moved as he accepted the prestigious Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award from Mexican actress Jacqueline Bracamontes. His poetic speech emphasized the enduring power of romantic love and poetry, which he described as “the only real things” and “the most beautiful things I have ever possessed.” Castro, whose illustrious career spans over three decades, has achieved six No. 1 hits on Hot Latin Songs, including “Amor,” “Azul,” and “Nunca Voy a Olvidarte,” and has sold over 12 million albums. His chart journey began in 1992 with “No Podrás,” and his tribute album, Viva El Príncipe, topped Latin Albums in 2011. Currently connecting with audiences through his Nada Solo Éxitos Tour, Castro also delivered a special performance at the ceremony, debuting his new collaboration “Antes Que Te Cases” with the Mexican-American duo Ha*Ash. The Lifetime Achievement Award acknowledges artists whose exceptional careers have elevated Latin music globally and whose influence continues to shape its development.
Rubén Blades, the legendary Panamanian artist, received the Billboard Icon Award, presented by his colleague and friend Gilberto Santa Rosa. In his acceptance speech, Blades humbly thanked his numerous collaborators, family, wife Luba, friends, teachers, mentors, Latin America, Panama, and his global supporters, acknowledging that “success never happens on its own.” Blades, an influential voice in Latin music for over five decades, redefined salsa by incorporating elements from rock, jazz, and pan-Latin sounds, creating a unique blend of musical innovation and powerful storytelling. Known for socially conscious lyrics in classics like “Pedro Navaja” and “Decisiones,” he was a central figure in New York’s 1970s salsa revolution. Beyond music, Blades is also an accomplished actor and former politician, and he recently released the album País Portátil. He also participated in an exclusive Icon Q&A during Billboard Latin Music Week.
Spanish singer-songwriter Rosalía was honored with the Billboard Hall of Fame Award, presented by Dominican star Juan Luis Guerra. Visibly emotional, Rosalía expressed her profound gratitude to Guerra, calling him “a master among masters,” and acknowledged the artists who paved the way for her, including Celia Cruz, Rocío, Vicente Fernandez, and Daddy Yankee. She also thanked Latin America for its inspiration and support. The Billboard Hall of Fame Award, first dedicated to Selena Quintanilla in 1995, celebrates careers defined by musical innovation, singular artistic vision, and influence transcending genres and borders. Later in the evening, Rosalía further triumphed, winning Top Latin Pop Album of the Year for LUX. She proudly shared her joy in making music in Spanish and being part of the celebration of Latin music. Earlier in the year, she was named Woman of the Year at the 2026 Billboard Latin Women in Music gala and recently concluded her 57-show LUX World Tour, which supported her album LUX, topping five Billboard charts including Top Latin Albums and World Albums.
The evening also saw Fuerza Regida take home the Billboard Vanguard Award. The awards ceremony was a capstone to the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Week, which ran from October 19 to October 21 at the Faena Forum in Miami Beach. This premier industry event brought together a constellation of stars, including Pitbull, Becky G, Maluma, Kany García, Grupo Frontera, and Quevedo, alongside the honorees, for a week of discussions, collaborations, and performances celebrating the vibrant world of Latin music.
