Lil Wayne is venturing into the podcast space, launching a new weekly show titled "The Joint Venture" alongside seasoned WFAN radio host Craig Carton. The podcast is scheduled to air its first episodes starting on July 22, promising a unique blend of sports, pop culture, and unscripted conversation.
The inaugural episode of "The Joint Venture" will be recorded live during a special podcast taping event at Fanatics Fest NYC on Sunday, July 19. This highly anticipated debut is set to feature an impressive lineup of guests from the sports world, including former New York Jets star Darrelle Revis, ex-New York Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire, and Super Bowl-winning New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, ensuring a dynamic start to the series.
Lil Wayne, who has prior experience in the podcasting arena as the host of "Young Money Radio" on Apple Music, shared his vision for the new show. He aims for "The Joint Venture" to embody the essence of authentic, relaxed conversation, likening it to "just kicking it with your people, talking the same way you do when nobody’s listening." He emphasized the show's unpredictable and candid nature, stating, "I’ma light one up with the homie Craig and we gonna talk our sh-t about whatever the day brings. You never know who’s gonna pull up or where the conversation’s gonna go."
While Lil Wayne, a New Orleans rap legend, and Craig Carton may seem like an unlikely duo, their collaboration is founded on a long-standing friendship. Wayne's deep passion for sports is well-documented; as a massive fan of the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Lakers, he demonstrates an ability to discuss sports with the same fluency he exhibits in his music. Carton himself acknowledged this during a March appearance by Lil Wayne on his WFAN radio show, where he hailed the rapper as the "biggest sports fan" he knows.
