MILITARY OUTRAGE: Teachers Brutally Assaulted by Soldiers in Takoradi Spark Public Condemnation!

The Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) has unequivocally condemned what it describes as the “repressive and barbaric treatment” allegedly inflicted upon a headteacher and three other teachers. This incident, reportedly carried out by military personnel from the 2BN barracks at Apremdo in Takoradi, prompted a press statement from the association on May 7, 2026.

COHBS expressed deep concern over the alleged assault, which is said to have occurred on Thursday, April 30, 2026. The association highlighted that the incident is indicative of a troubling pattern of attacks against teachers, noting with regret that those responsible for such acts are rarely brought to justice.

In its statement, COHBS emphasized the significant sacrifices teachers make, working under challenging conditions in communities where many other professionals are unwilling to serve. Therefore, the association views any form of intimidation, disrespect, or violence against educators as entirely unacceptable.

Consequently, COHBS is demanding a full-scale investigation into the matter and has called upon the appropriate authorities to ensure that all individuals implicated are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Furthermore, the association is seeking adequate compensation for the affected teachers, citing the trauma and humiliation they have endured.

The statement, signed by General Secretary Justice Adu-Darkoh, also issued a stern warning: failure to secure justice could lead to industrial action. COHBS urged the Ghana National Association of Teachers and other teacher unions to demonstrate solidarity with the affected teachers, including the withdrawal of services if necessary, to ensure their demands are met. The association reiterated its unwavering commitment to protecting the dignity, safety, and welfare of all teachers across the country.
