The body of Hilda Otieno was recovered from River Kuja in Awendo sub-county on Thursday, July 10.

Kanyasrega Assistant Chief Ezekiel Kokeyo confirmed the incident, saying police in the area have already launched investigations.

Kokeyo mentioned that the family of the deceased reported Hilda had been missing from her Nairobi home for several days before her body was discovered.

The local administrator noted that, although the cause of death has not yet been determined, initial investigations suggest that the deceased may have taken her own life.

According to Citizen Digital, the deceased had been battling depression after the loss of her husband.

A close family member disclosed that the 38-year-old woman had sent KSh 40,000 to her younger brother in Nairobi days before she went missing.

She allegedly instructed her younger brother, instructing him to care for her children before she disappeared.

However, detectives are trying to establish how she travelled all the way to Migori county where she was found dead.

It's good to point out that if you're struggling with depression, seeking help is crucial and can significantly improve your well-being.

Depression is a treatable condition, and there are various options available, including treatment, therapy, and lifestyle changes.

In other sad news, Jane Wambui Njoroge, a nurse at Naivasha County Referral Hospital, was found dead.

In a statement, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Wambui's body was discovered buried outside her house in the Karai area.

According to DCI, a 30-year-old nanny, Mary Chebet, is being treated as the prime suspect in the brutal murder of her employer.

Wambui's husband had reported to the police that his wife, who works at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, went missing on 4 July 2025, after leaving her workplace en route home.

Chebet was arrested, and after intense interrogations, the suspect led the officers to the victim’s home in Karai.

At her employer's home, the suspect revealed the horrifying scene, including the shallow grave behind the house where Wambui’s body had been buried in a shallow grave behind the house.

With the assistance of public health officers, the decomposing body was exhumed with pieces of clothes tightly wrapped around the victim’s neck.
