Published 15 hours ago2 minute read

The Memphis Grizzlies wasted no time bolstering their roster for the 2025-26 regular season. Their biggest move was signing 2023 Defensive Player of the Year Jaren Jackson Jr. to a five-year $240 maximum contract extension. His deal includes a player option for the 2029-30 season.

Other moves the Grizzlies made were signing Santi Aldama to a three-year, $52.5 million deal, Guard Ty Jerome to a three-year, $28 million deal, and Guard Cam Spencer to a two-year, $4.5 million contract. According to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, the Memphis Grizzlies are working to buyout Cole Anthony to create cap space to bring back Jackson Jr. Will these moves help the Grizzlies compete in a crowded Western Conference?

It has been a busy few hours for the Memphis Grizzlies. They finished with the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. Memphis had a difficult season. They fired Head Coach Taylor Jenkins and star Point Guard Ja Morant found himself in hot water again because of his antics. Memphis made it through the NBA Play-In Tournament but was shellacked by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the opening round.

These moves undoubtedly make the Grizzlies a better team heading into next season. They locked down Jackson Jr. for years to come and signed sharp-shooter Jerome. The team also made some solid moves that will bolster their depth. While these are good moves, the team’s success will hinge upon Morant. If he could mature, Memphis could go on a deep postseason run. If not, it will be another season filled with what-ifs.
