Mayorkun Drops New Album 'Still The Mayor'

Nigerian Afropop sensation Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, widely recognized as Mayorkun, has officially unveiled his highly anticipated third studio album, titled ‘Still The Mayor’. The 12-track project became available on all major streaming platforms in the early hours of Friday, following a brief delay from its initial May 2 release date. Mayorkun announced the album's arrival via his verified X account, expressing gratitude to everyone involved in the "special" project.

‘Still The Mayor’ features an impressive roster of collaborations, blending both international and Nigerian artistes. Noteworthy collaborations include appearances by Fireboy DML (who features twice), Davido, Rotimi, King Promise, Olivetheboy, Gyakie, Dremo, The Flowolf, and Michii. Tracks such as ‘Lose Control’ featuring King Promise, ‘Under The Canopy,’ and ‘Therapist’ featuring Fireboy DML have already begun to generate significant buzz among fans and critics. Other tracks on the album include ‘Keep On Rockin’, ‘Innocent’, ‘3:45’, ‘Diamonds’, ‘Konko Below’, ‘Industry Girl’, ‘Blessings On Blessings’, ‘Reason 2 Japa’ (which was previously released as a single), ‘Hold Body’, ‘Woman’, ‘Would You?’, and ‘Jiggy’.

This new release marks Mayorkun’s first full-length body of work since his sophomore album, ‘Back In Office,’ which dropped in October 2021. It also comes nearly seven years after his critically acclaimed debut, ‘The Mayor of Lagos,’ released in November 2018. Mayorkun described ‘Still The Mayor’ as his “most challenging” project to date and a deeply personal journey that reflects his growth and experiences over the years. He stated in a 3MUSIC TV interview that the album is a continuation of his previous projects, intentionally chosen to spark curiosity, and that it reflects how "life’s been happening" to him.

With ‘Still The Mayor,’ Mayorkun aims to reassert his consistency and evolution within the vibrant Afrobeats landscape. The album’s release also signifies his return to the spotlight after a relatively quiet 2024, during which he focused on touring and production. Fans have enthusiastically shared their reactions across social media, commending the album’s diverse sonic range, mature themes, and Mayorkun’s signature lyrical delivery. Industry observers anticipate that the album will chart highly in Nigeria and feature prominently across global Afrobeats playlists in the coming days.

Mayorkun first rose to prominence in 2016 after the release of his debut single ‘Eleko,’ produced by Puffy Tee. He was signed to Davido’s DMW record label from 2016 to 2021. After his departure from DMW in 2021, he released ‘Back In Office’ under the Sony Music West Africa division. Throughout his career, Mayorkun has garnered numerous accolades and awards, solidifying his reputation as one of Nigeria’s most dependable hitmakers with his unique blend of pop, highlife, and urban influences.
