Massive Blow to Illegal Mining: NSCDC Dismantles Network in Rivers State!

Operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have successfully dismantled an illegal mineral storage network operating within the Onne axis of Rivers State. This significant operation was launched following credible intelligence and was executed by NSCDC mining marshals in close collaboration with officials from the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals, underscoring a concerted effort to curb illicit activities in the sector.
In a statement released by CSC Babawale Afolabi, the national public relations officer for the Corps, it was revealed that the team, led by DSC Emmanuel Abiahu, uncovered multiple warehouses. These facilities were found to be stockpiling mined minerals without the necessary valid permits, official licences, or any evidence of royalty payments to the federal government. Afolabi emphasized that such unlawful activities not only gravely undermine the national economy but also pose considerable environmental and safety risks to the local residents.
The NSCDC’s decisive intervention directly responds to a consistent directive from its Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi. General Audi has repeatedly stressed the critical importance of protecting Nigeria’s valuable solid mineral wealth and fostering a fair, regulated environment for legitimate miners, investors, and the communities whose livelihoods depend on this vital sector. The Corps has issued a stern warning that all operators within the region must adhere strictly to the law, cautioning that any failure to comply will result in swift and decisive enforcement action.
Furthermore, the NSCDC affirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives, protecting livelihoods, and preserving the environment through sustained surveillance efforts and active collaboration with all relevant stakeholders. The Corps also appealed to citizens to continue providing security agencies with credible information, which is crucial in curbing illegal mining activities and ensuring that the benefits derived from Nigeria’s abundant natural resources genuinely serve the populace and the nation at large.
