Maresca's Chelsea Faces Backlash After Newcastle Draw as Howe Demands Penalty

Chelsea completed a remarkable second-half comeback to secure a 2-2 draw at St James' Park against Newcastle United, after the home side had dominated the first half to establish a 2-0 lead. The thrilling Premier League encounter saw Chelsea display incredible resilience, transforming their performance after a dismal opening 45 minutes.
Newcastle, inspired by England's Anthony Gordon and eager to atone for their recent Tyne-Wear derby defeat to Sunderland, began the game at an unrelenting pace that Chelsea simply could not match. Striker Nick Woltemade, who had scored an own goal in the derby, quickly erased that memory by opening the scoring just four minutes in. He then doubled Newcastle's lead on 20 minutes with a neat finish from a Gordon cross, leaving Chelsea shell-shocked and their UEFA Champions League aspirations seemingly stalled. Chelsea's first-half performance was notably poor, registering an expected goals figure of 1.97—their worst in over two years for an opening 45 minutes—and failing to register a single shot on target. Defensive errors were prevalent, including Wesley Fofana giving away the ball for Newcastle's first goal and Trevoh Chalobah being too slow to react for the second, leaving the visitors overrun and out-battled.
However, the complexion of the game completely changed in the second half, following what must have been an impactful team talk from Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca. Captain Reece James ignited the comeback with a brilliant 25-yard free-kick on 49 minutes, marking Chelsea's 50th goal in all competitions this season. João Pedro then drew Chelsea level on 66 minutes, slotting past Aaron Ramsdale with composure after capitalizing on a slip by Malick Thiaw. This comeback demonstrated a side that
