Manchester United look set for a reunion with one of their former players at the start of the new Premier League season.

United will be busy looking ahead to the new campaign which gets underway on Sunday, August 17, at home to Arsenal at Old Trafford. Between now and then, United travel to Sweden and then the United States for their pre-season preparations.

There is also work being done behind the scenes in the transfer market, as United look to build their squad for the return of Premier League football. Matheus Cunha is the only new signing so far for United, but the club are looking to bring Bryan Mbeumo to Old Trafford from Brentford too.

With United facing Arsenal on the opening day, there is set to be a reunion with one of their former players. The Gunners have confirmed that they have appointed Gabriel Heinze as an assistant coach.

Heinze moves to the Emirates Stadium after Arsenal looked to replace Carlos Cuesta in Mikel Arteta's backroom staff, who recently left North London to become manager of Serie A outfit Parma.

The appointment means that Heinze will be in the opposition dugout at Old Trafford when United host Arsenal in their Premier League opener in just over a month's time.

Heinze spent three years as a player at United, making 87 appearances and winning a Premier League title. The former defender, 47, has since had managerial jobs in Argentina with Godoy Cruz, Argentinos Juniors and Velez Sarsfield, before going on to take charge of Major League Soccer outfit Atlanta United.

The former United star's last managerial job was at his former club Newell's Old Boys in Argentina, where he spent 11 months in charge until his departure in December 2023.
