A man has been shot and killed while singing Linkin Park at a karaoke night.

The incident took place in Ohio last Friday (July 11), where a man named Benjamin ‘Donkey’ Hawk was killed at Louie’s Corner House in Buckeye Lake. He was there for a karaoke night with his girlfriend.

According to authorities (as per Loudwire), a man named Richard Lindgren, aged 59, allegedly opened fire and shot Hawk in the back of the head that night. Lindgren is believed to be the ex-husband of Hawk’s girlfriend, according to the Licking County Sheriff’s Office.

At the time of the shooting, Hawk and his girlfriend – who had been dating for a few months – arrived at the bar together and were on stage performing a cover of the Linkin Park song ‘One More Light’.

A DJ who was a witness told ABC 6 news that there was no tension or conflict before the shooting. “There was no confrontation, no shouting,” he said. “He just walked in, shot him, and walked out.”

The DJ alleged that, while there was no sense of hostility before the gun was pulled out, he did sometimes see Lindgren “blurt out hateful words when his ex got up to sing.

“He’d call her names, bash her character,” he told the outlet. “I told him two weeks ago — if he acted like that again, he wasn’t welcome.”

Outlets including Loudwire and ABC 6 claim that Lindgren allegedly calmly put the gun in his pocket and left the bar after the shooting. Police then tracked him to South Caroliner and he was arrested the following day (July 12).

At the time of writing, Lindgren is currently waiting to be taken back to Ohio, and it is not yet clear if he has been formally charged.

Hawk was the father of two daughters, and a GoFundMe page has been created in a bid to help cover the expenses of his funeral and provide care for his children.

Speaking about Benjamin, his brother David told The Columbus Dispatch that his late sibling was a rising voice and “using karaoke to share his emotions with everybody”.

“He always looked out for those around him,” David added in the GoFundMe description. “Even if it meant he had to go without.”
