LaLiga President Stirs Controversy with Explosive Real Madrid-Barcelona Remarks!

LaLiga president Javier Tebas has vehemently defended his deep-rooted loyalty to Real Madrid and fiercely rebutted critics, including club assembly members and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. Tebas expressed sadness, not anger, after an assembly member proposed declaring him 'persona non grata', asserting that his commitment to the club dates back to his childhood.

Tebas clarified his long-standing allegiance, stating, "I've been a [Real] Madrid fan since I was six. No one imposed it on me; I chose it. Madridismo doesn’t come from a membership card or a seat in the directors’ box. It comes from millions of anonymous fans who suffer and celebrate with their team.” He voiced frustration over being labeled 'anti-Madrid', calling such accusations painful and baseless. Tebas maintains that his decisions as LaLiga president are aimed at fostering a strong, competitive league that ultimately benefits all teams, including Real Madrid, warning that without a healthy ecosystem, even Europe’s most successful clubs risk losing their prominence.

Furthermore, Tebas criticized Real Madrid’s current leadership, specifically targeting what he termed “mega-projects” that, in his view, weaken the very league structure that propelled the club to global powerhouse status. He insisted that defending LaLiga is synonymous with defending Real Madrid’s enduring legacy and future. He concluded his initial statement with a defiant message: no political maneuvering or public criticism can sever his decades-long bond with the club, regardless of attempts to remove him from the Real Madrid narrative, reiterating, “They can call me ‘persona non grata.’ They can try to erase me. But they cannot erase what I’ve felt since I was six.” For Tebas, his leadership and championed reforms are integral to protecting the broader football ecosystem that enabled Real Madrid's current success.

In a direct confrontation, Javier Tebas also fired back at Florentino Perez following comments made by the Real Madrid president at a recent general assembly. Perez had addressed various issues, including disputes with UEFA and the Barcelona Negreira case, and accused Tebas of personal enrichment, noting his salary exceeded that of the Premier League president despite LaLiga generating less revenue. Tebas did not hesitate to address these accusations, immediately responding to Perez's claims.

Tebas challenged Perez’s position to speak on “conflicts of interest,” asserting, “If we’re talking about “conflicts of interest”, Florentino Perez is the last person who should be giving lessons.” He highlighted instances where Real Madrid, under Perez’s leadership, allegedly engaged in conflicts. Tebas pointed out that Real Madrid was part of the RFEF board throughout the 'Rubiales era'. He argued that if, as Perez suggested, the RFEF is "the house that appoints and controls Spanish refereeing," then Real Madrid's involvement represented a significant conflict of interest. Tebas further accused Real Madrid of privately negotiating large sums of money for their participation in the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia with Rubiales, likening it to arranging a summer friendly. He revealed that the clubs involved were unequivocally unhappy with the revenue distribution from that deal, calling it a “textbook conflict of interest.”
