Kwara Governor Shakes Up Health Sector with Key Hospital Appointment

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has officially approved the appointment of Professor Ademola Popoola as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the newly designated Thomas Adewumi Teaching Hospital, Omu-Aran. This significant development follows the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kwara State Government and Thomas Adewumi University, Oko. This agreement has transformed the General Hospital, Omu-Aran, into the university's teaching hospital, marking a pivotal moment for healthcare and medical education in the state.

Dr. Amina El-Imam, the state’s Commissioner for Health, highlighted the strategic importance of Professor Popoola’s appointment. She noted that this decision by the state government is aimed at providing visionary leadership essential for guiding the hospital towards achieving global standards in medical training, research, and comprehensive service delivery. El-Imam further elaborated that this initiative is a bold step designed not only to enhance the medical training programmes offered by Thomas Adewumi University but also to significantly broaden access to high-quality healthcare services for the residents of Kwara State and surrounding regions.

The Commissioner reiterated the Kwara State Government’s unwavering commitment, stating, “With this appointment, the Kwara State Government has once again demonstrated its dedication to building a healthier, stronger, and more prosperous future for its citizens.” This move underscores the administration's focus on improving health infrastructure and educational opportunities within the state.
