Dave Bautista has revealed significant muscle gains, reaching 250 pounds, as he prepares to star as Kratos in the upcoming "God of War" series. He replaced Ryan Hurst due to an injury, with filming already underway for the two-season Prime Video adaptation that will follow Kratos and Atreus's journey.
Actor Dave Bautista has once again showcased his significant muscle gains as he prepares to embody the iconic role of Kratos for the highly anticipated “God of War” series. The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star recently announced on his Instagram story that he has gained 20 pounds for the role, reaching a current weight of 250 pounds. This update follows a previous glimpse into his transformation two months prior, when he revealed he had resumed weight training, indicating his dedication to achieving the necessary physique for the character.
Bautista’s casting as Kratos came in August, replacing Ryan Hurst who was originally slated for the role. Hurst’s departure was due to an on-set bicep injury that necessitated surgery and would have delayed production into 2027. Filming for the series commenced in Vancouver in February, and the production team will now undertake the task of reshooting all scenes that had previously involved Hurst with Bautista.
The “God of War” series on Prime Video is set to delve into the narrative of the two most recent “God of War” video games. The story will follow Kratos as he navigates the challenges of fatherhood, raising his ten-year-old son, Atreus, played by Callum Vinson, amidst battles with the gods of the Norse pantheon. According to the logline, the plot centers on Kratos and Atreus embarking on a poignant journey to scatter the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Throughout their adventures, Kratos endeavors to mentor his son on becoming a better god, while Atreus, in turn, strives to teach his father the essence of being a better human.
Prime Video has committed to a two-season order for “God of War,” with plans for both seasons to be filmed back-to-back. Beyond his upcoming portrayal of Kratos, Bautista boasts an extensive filmography, including roles in “My Spy,” “Knock at the Cabin,” and “The Wrecking Crew.” He is also anticipated to appear in “Road House 2” and the forthcoming “Highlander” reboot.
