Kevin Nisbet's Millwall future uncertain as Aberdeen hero's future takes £5million transfer twist - Football Scotland

Kevin Nisbet is set to return to Millwall after a successful loan stint with Aberdeen, where he scored 14 times in 37 matches across all competitions.

Despite finishing fifth in the Premiership, Aberdeen managed to secure a Scottish Cup victory against Celtic, largely thanks to Nisbet's contributions.

However, his chances of securing regular play at Millwall have been significantly reduced after the club broke their transfer record to sign Middlesbrough forward Josh Coburn.

Coburn, who netted six goals during his 25-match loan spell in south-east London last season, was signed for a fee that could potentially rise to £5million.

Nisbet, who moved to London from Hibernian in a £2m deal back in January 2023, has struggled with injuries and form, scoring only five goals in 30 matches for Millwall, reports the Daily Record.

With just a year left on his contract, Aberdeen fans are hopeful for a return of their top scorer ahead of a European campaign lasting until Christmas at least, but may be priced out when considering transfer fees and wages.

Premiership competitors Hearts are reportedly eyeing up a move for the player, seeking a replacement for their potentially outgoing skipper Lawrence Shankland if he decides to leave.

After Aberdeen's victory at Hampden, Nisbet expressed his commitment to returning to Millwall and impressing manager Neil, stating: "I'll be back with them pre-season. I don't really want to talk about other clubs and stuff like that."

and "I'll be back with them pre-season and we'll take it from there."

Millwall boss Neil had previously disclosed his eagerness to evaluate the forward in the summer. Addressing his talks over the player's future, Neil remarked: "Not particularly."

Neil further added, "There's been discussions around the squad in general, but the simple fact is: Kevin's our player."

Millwall’s Steve Gallen witnessed Nisbet’s prowess firsthand during a recent match, as Neil mentioned, "Steve Gallen was up watching on the weekend, so he's seen the two goals that he scored. I believe he met him after the game."

Neil underscored the club’s ongoing interest in loaned players, including Nisbet: "So we're still keeping tracks on all our players that are out on loan, irrespective of whether it's Kevin or anybody else."

Concluding his comments on the situation, Neil affirmed, "Kevin's our player, we're glad he's doing well and he'll be back like every other player in the summer and then we'll take it from there."
