Kenya's Wildlife Parks See Massive Influx: Over 300,000 Tourists Celebrate 2025 Festive Season
Kenya's national parks and wildlife reserves experienced a significant surge in visitors during the December 2025 festive season, attracting over 300,000 individuals. This robust turnout underscores the growing appeal of Kenya's diverse wildlife destinations to both local and international tourists. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) expressed gratitude to all visitors who chose Kenya Parks for their holiday experiences, marking a successful conclusion to the festive period.
Of the total visitors, a substantial 231,000 were Kenyan citizens and residents, highlighting the increasing trend of domestic travel and a deeper appreciation for conservation areas among Kenyans. The remaining 82,500 visitors were non-residents who journeyed from various parts of the world to immerse themselves in Kenya's rich wildlife and natural heritage. KWS emphasized the critical role of local visitors as the true cornerstone of Kenya's tourism sector.
These impressive festive season figures align with the government's intensified efforts to expand the tourism industry. KWS reiterated its commitment to supporting the Government of Kenya and the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife's ambitious vision of attracting five million visitors annually by 2028. The agency stated that it remains dedicated to fostering Kenya's tourism growth through wildlife, adventure, and sustainable tourism practices. Furthermore, KWS indicated that continuous investment in conservation, enhancing visitor experiences, and implementing sustainable park management strategies would be pivotal in maintaining Kenya's global standing as a premier wildlife destination.
In a bid to encourage more Kenyans to explore their country's natural wonders, the Kenya Wildlife Service also rolled out limited-time Boxing Day group offers. These promotions, designed to make wildlife experiences more accessible and affordable, aimed to facilitate families and groups reconnecting with nature during the holiday season. KWS invited families and friends to take advantage of these special offers across its national parks, sanctuaries, and marine parks.
The Boxing Day promotion included several incentives: families of five visiting sanctuaries and marine parks received free entry for one child aged between six and 17 years. Groups traveling in five-seater vehicles also benefited, with one child granted free entry for every five passengers. For larger groups, visitors arriving in a full 25-seater bus enjoyed free entry for two adults, while those in seven-seater vans or eight-seater Land Cruisers received free entry for one adult. Additionally, KWS extended its festive cheer to accommodation, offering guests who booked three nights in selected park lodges and facilities the fourth night free. These offers were exclusively available to Kenyan citizens and applied across all KWS-managed terrestrial, marine, and sanctuary destinations, valid until December 31.
