Kanpur roads flooded after heavy downpour

Kanpur: Around 35 mm rains in the last twenty four hours made the climatic conditions favourable and pleasant for Kanpurites but on the other side it created problems of water logging in most parts of the city and traffic movement.Intermittent rains started on Friday evening and converted into heavy rains in the early hours of Saturday, continuing till 10 am. The 35 mm rain in one day is the highest in the current season and it dipped the mercury. The maximum temperature recorded was 30.4 degree which is 5.8 degree less than normal. Similarly, the minimum temperature was recorded at 2 degree which is 2.3 degree lower than normal. However, humidity rose to 97 percent.

South eastern wind speed was measured at 3.3 kms per hour. Due to rains in the morning, several schools declared a rainy day.Weather scientists have predicted that same climatic conditions would prevail in the next 24 days. This rain exposed the tall claims of Kanpur Municipal Corporation. Shastri chowk, Saket Nagar, Govind Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Shastri Nagar, P Road, Kidwai Nagar, VIP road, Khalasi Line, Gwaltoli, Koyala Nagar, Yashoda Nagar etc., as well as narrow and inside lanes, were affected duw to waterlogging. The Juhi railway underpass was also inundated, cutting one of the road connections of south Kanpur. About half a dozen places including Bhoosa Toli roads caved in and disrupted traffic.Commuters faced difficulty in reaching their destination as roads and lanes turned into pools and canals.
