MANILA, Philippines – Rains are expected over several parts of the country as the southwest monsoon, habagat, continues to affect the Philippines, the state weather bureau said Sunday.

In its 4 a.m. weather forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tropical Storm Nari (international name), located 2,165 kilometers east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and has no direct effect on the country.

The storm packs maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 80 km/h. It is moving east northeastward at 15 km/h and is not expected to enter PAR, Pagasa said.

Meanwhile, Pagasa said it is also monitoring a cluster of clouds east of Mindanao, which may develop into a low-pressure area (LPA) in the coming days.

Palawan will experience occasional rains due to the southwest monsoon, which may trigger flash floods or landslides.

Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and the rest of MIMAROPA will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Likewise, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Pagasa continues to urge the public and local disaster risk reduction offices to remain alert, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides.
