Justin Baldoni's Lawyer SURPRISED by Ryan Reynolds' 'SNL' joke on Blake Liveley's alleged 'sexual harassment' on 'It Ends With Us' sets
Justin Baldoni’s lawyer has expressed his 'surprise' over Ryan Reynolds’ comment at Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special, which fans believe referenced his wife, Blake Lively's ongoing legal drama with the '
It Ends With Us
' director.
During the special, SNL veterans Tina Fey and Amy Poehler engaged with the audience when Reynolds raised his hand. Fey acknowledged him, saying, “Ryan Reynolds, how’s it going?” to which Reynolds playfully responded, “Great! Why, what have you heard?” The remark drew laughter from the crowd, with many speculating it was an indirect jibe at the lawsuits Baldoni and Blake filed against each other.
Reacting to the moment, Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, addressed the comment in an interview on Hot Mics with Billy Bush. “I’m unaware of anybody, frankly, whose wife has been sexually harassed and has made jokes about that type of situation. I can’t think of anyone who’s done anything like that. So it surprised me,” Freedman said.
When asked about Baldoni’s current state, Freedman shared that the actor and director is currently in Hawaii with his family, seeking some peace amid the controversy. “I think he’s hopeful, he’s grateful he’s with his family. And grateful that he could let other fire victims use his house. Like anyone else who would be going through a situation where you’re accused of something you did not do… I think it’s distressful, to say the least,” he added.
Previously, Freedman suggested in his appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show that Nicepool being used as comedic fodder casts doubt on the validity of claims in Lively’s lawsuit against Baldoni. “If somebody is seriously sexually harassed, you don’t make fun of it,” the lawyer said. “It’s a serious issue,” he added.
As per a report on Variety, Freedman had asked Marvel president Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger to preserve any documents "relating to or reflecting a deliberate attempt to mock, harass, ridicule, intimidate, or bully Baldoni through the character of 'Nicepool'."
The controversy surrounding 'It Ends With Us' began late last year, with Lively accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and an alleged smear campaign. The director then hit back with a lawsuit against the New York Times and also sued Lively and Reynolds to the tune of $400 million.
