Sigona Golf Club Temporarily Closed Due to Clubhouse Fire

Sigona Golf Club in Kiambu has been temporarily closed following a fire that erupted at its Clubhouse late on Friday night, March 21. Authorities in Kiambu have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
According to the club’s Board of Directors, the fire commenced at approximately 11:30 p.m. Prompt action by the club’s fire marshals, supported by Kiambu County emergency response teams, ensured the fire was contained swiftly. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the staff, members, or guests present.
Muraya Kariuki, Chairman of Sigona Golf Club, expressed gratitude that everyone was safe. "We are grateful that everyone is safe. Our focus now is on a thorough investigation and restoring normal operations," he stated. The Clubhouse will remain closed to facilitate safety inspections. However, the golf course itself remains open, and management has confirmed that the Saturday competition will proceed as scheduled. Alternative bar and catering services are being arranged for members to minimize disruption.
Established in 1938 along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, Sigona Golf Club is recognized as one of Kenya’s premier golfing destinations. The incident at Sigona Golf Club follows a similar fire at Limuru Golf Club two months prior. This has raised concerns regarding fire safety standards at major golf establishments within the region.
The Club has assured its members and the public that updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released pending its outcome.
