Fire Incidents Destroy Properties in Oyo

The Oyo State Fire Services Agency has been actively responding to multiple fire outbreaks across the state, from Ibadan to Ogbomoso, between Thursday, May 8, and Saturday, May 10, 2025. According to the agency's general manager, Akinyemi Akinyinka, firefighters have been working to contain and extinguish the blazes, although significant property damage has occurred.

In Ibadan, two fire incidents resulted in the destruction of properties and goods. One incident occurred in the Yemetu area in the early hours of Saturday, May 10, 2025. The agency received a call at 2:09 am from Mr. S.O. Soyombo, reporting a fire at a row of shops. Fire personnel, led by ACFS Adedeji, were dispatched and found several locked shops engulfed in flames. The fire was contained, preventing further spread, but six of the 24 locked shops were destroyed. The cause was attributed to an unattended deep freezer that overheated overnight.

Earlier on Friday, May 9, another fire incident occurred at 3, Bolarinwa Street, Decart Area, Ring Road, Ibadan. Firefighters, led by ACFS Adekola, responded to find a three-bedroom flat on the upper floor of a single-storey residential building on fire. The blaze was successfully contained, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the property and nearby buildings. This incident was reportedly caused by a power surge.

In Ogbomoso, an 18-seater Toyota Hiace with registration number ABC553XD (Lagos) caught fire at Omowumi Hotel Sawmill, Adeleke Area, on Saturday, May 10, 2025. The agency received an emergency call from Mr. Kunle Aderibigbe. Fire personnel, led by ACFS Dario, quickly responded and extinguished the fire before it could escalate.
