Despite plans for the follow-up being previously shelved, Harington, known for his role as the King in the North, revealed his renewed comfort with the character and the world of Westeros. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Harington confirmed that the series spent approximately two years in development. Ultimately, it was his decision to halt the project because he felt the story wasn't strong enough to warrant bringing Jon Snow back. He, HBO, and George R.R. Martin had agreed that it was better not to proceed if the right narrative wasn't found.

However, Harington's perspective has shifted since the project's abandonment. Having taken time away from the iconic role and explored other diverse characters, he now feels more connected and at ease with Jon Snow and the Game of Thrones universe. This suggests that while the door was closed once, it might not be permanently sealed, hinting at a potential revival if a compelling story emerges.
