Jon Scheyer Sends Clear Message About Cooper Flagg's Future At Duke
Duke is amid an NCAA Tournament run after crushing Baylor in the second round last weekend.
Duke will play Arizona in the Sweet 16 on Thursday night and can move on to the Elite Eight with a win.
Star freshman Cooper Flagg has been a major reason for the program's success this season, averaging 18.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. He's also putting up these numbers as a true freshman.
There has been talk about him declaring for the 2025 NBA Draft since he's atop a lot of draft boards but no decision has been made yet. Flagg himself even said he'd like to return for another season in 2025-26.
However, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer hinted that the NBA might be calling for Flagg once the 2024-25 season ends.
"I’ll say this, and this is aside from Cooper because Cooper is about to move on with something incredibly special with the next step he’s going to go after this," Scheyer said, via On3. But happiness doesn’t necessarily equate to just becoming a pro or just making money, although they’re making money either way now."
Flagg will have to decide on his future at some point but right now, his focus is on helping Duke try and win a national title. Duke hasn't won a national title in men's college basketball since the 2014-15 season and is trying to break that 10-year drought.
Duke will play the winner of the Alabama-BYU game in the Elite Eight on Saturday if it can get past Arizona. The program is two wins away from another berth in the Final Four, which is scheduled for April 5.
Tip-off for Thursday's Arizona-Duke game will be at 9:39 p.m. ET.
