Jon Scheyer Sends Strong Message About Cooper Flagg After Historic Sweet 16 Performance
The No. 1 seed Duke Blue Devils were pushed to the brink by Caleb Love and the No. 4 seed Arizona Wildcats on Thursday night, but it still wasn’t enough to overcome freshman Cooper Flagg and the Blue Devils, who are marching to the Elite Eight for a Saturday night showdown with the No. 2 seed Alabama Crimson Tide.
Flagg finished with an impressive 30 points, seven assists, six rebounds, three blocks, and one steal in the win, becoming the first player in NCAA Tournament history to reach these numbers, according to StatMamba.
After the game, Duke head coach Jon Scheyer was left in awe of Flagg’s performance. Having seen a great deal of basketball in his career, Scheyer called Flagg’s performance one of the best he’s ever witnessed.
“It sure looks that way to me, that he enjoys it,” Scheyer said. “That was one of the best tournament performances I’ve ever coached or been a part of.”

Flagg continues to prove why he’s the consensus projected No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft this June, despite leaving open the possibility of returning to Duke for another season.
He delivered his best performance of the tournament — and perhaps his entire Duke career — with several friends and family members in attendance.
Before the game, his mother, Kelly Flagg, revealed that around 15 to 20 people from their hometown of Newport, Maine, had traveled to Newark, New Jersey, to watch him and the Blue Devils play at the Prudential Center.
Flagg certainly gave them a memorable show, and now, with the quick turnaround, Duke will take on an Alabama team that set a record for most made 3-pointers in their Sweet 16 matchup against BYU, just before Duke hit the floor.
