When it was first released in 2014, was an entirely new type of action movie. While it initially appeared to be a standard but original thriller, it quickly proved to be anything but. With Keanu Reeves showcasing his unique gun-fu fighting style, the franchise drew in enthralled audiences by building on its unique lore and exceptional fight choreography. Across five movies, including the recent spinoff From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, it has earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

While the most recent mainline John Wick movie implied that Wick would not return, John Wick: Chapter 5 has been confirmed and is in active development. Reeves will be working alongside director and creator Chad Stahelski again, as the two add another story to Wick's tragic life. It is coming after two major spinoffs were already released, including Ballerina and the TV miniseries, The Continental. As Chapter 5 remains in development, however,have been considering a K-drama that has begun to dominate Netflix.

Netflix's is already . Inspired by Plaza Wars: Mercy for None by Oh Se-hyung and Kim Geun-tae, a popular WebToon, the series follows former gang member Nam Gi-jun (So Ji-sub), as he discovers the death of his brother (Lee Joon-hyuk). Enraged by the murder, Nam Gi-jun returns to his life of crime and begins hunting everyone responsible. Mercy for None joins dozens of other successful Netflix Original K-dramas, and it is already receiving widespread attention.

According to Netflix, the show became an instant success shortly after its June 6 release. It currently stands at the , standing just behind Sara: Woman in the Shadows. With 4.9 million viewers and 25 million hours viewed, it should continue to climb the charts as awareness spreads. It is the #1 show in Hong Kong, South Korea, and Vietnam, and it placed in the top 10 in 44 different countries. It is most popular in East Asia and South America, where the show earned a firm place atop the lists.

Reaching such a coveted place on the charts just days after release is an incredible accomplishment. If Netflix manages to raise the show's profile even more, this series could quickly become its next hit series. With the upcoming Squid Game season 3 serving as the final season and Stranger Things coming to an end, the streaming giant needs a new franchise to spark interest. If it can break out among domestic audiences, could very well become true competition for the John Wick movies.
