JENNIE Unleashes Dark Fairytale in 'Fallen Angel' EP and Music Video
BLACKPINK's JENNIE has released her new three-track digital EP, "Fallen Angel," a deeply personal collection crafted through her own company, Odd Atelier. The EP features a visually stunning, Tim Burton-inspired music video for the title track, alongside "Heaven" and "Less Than a Lover," marking a significant solo venture. It offers a blend of personal expression and evocative storytelling.
BLACKPINK's JENNIE, the South Korea-born, New Zealand-raised star, has stepped out with her solo digital EP, "Fallen Angel." This three-track collection, released at midnight, is presented as coming "from a very personal place with the truest self-expression," as announced by Odd Atelier, JENNIE's own company and label. It is described as "A gift from JENNIE, with love," and is now available for streaming.
The EP's title track, "Fallen Angel," is accompanied by an official music video, which evokes a fairytale reminiscent of Tim Burton's work. The visual narrative masterfully balances elements of light and dark, featuring imagery such as bonfires and flowers, butterflies and bad dreams, and poetry and pain, all with JENNIE as the central connecting figure. The video's spoken word outro reveals a profound message: "Thorns may be the sharpest, fiercest thing on this earth, And yet, they bloom into the world’s most beautiful roses."
The music video culminates in a fiery spectacle, though a disclaimer assures viewers that all fire effects were created using VFX (CG) and that any scenes involving minors were filmed in a safe environment under appropriate supervision. The narrative opens with a child confined within a stage of warped houses, accompanied by a voice stating, "human greed has made them grow so heavy." As the camera pulls back, a surreal, foggy landscape with dominating skyscrapers and dwelling-like eyes is revealed. The narrator, speaking in Korean, offers a message of hope: "But little one, close your eyes like I do. We can still fly. Free as can be."
Beyond the title track, "Fallen Angel" also includes "Heaven" and "Less Than a Lover." JENNIE first debuted "Heaven" last month while headlining the final night of the Open’er Festival in Gdynia, Poland. Regarding "Less Than a Lover," she shared with the audience, "It’s a song I wrote thinking about summer," expressing her excitement about sharing new music with her fans. The EP signifies a significant moment in JENNIE's solo career, allowing her to convey her truest self-expression through music.
