Japan - Best-players-of-Japanese-B1-League-round-37

Published 2 months ago3 minute read

Experienced International Forward Yuta Watanabe (206-F-1994) put on an amazing game in the last round for Chiba Jets and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 37.
The 30-year old forward had the game-high 26 points adding eight rebounds for Chiba Jets in his team's victory, helping them to crush Hiroshima D. (#5, 17-20) with 18-point margin 104-86. Jets maintains the 3rd position in their group in the Japanese B1 League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Chiba Jets will need more victories to improve their 24-13 record. In the team's last game Watanabe had a remarkable 87.5% from 2-point range. He turned to be Jets' top player in his first season with the team. Yuta Watanabe averages this season 14.5ppg and 6.3rpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American Alize Johnson (206-SF-1996) of

Kawasaki Brave Thunders. Johnson impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 27 points and 14 rebounds. Bad luck as Brave Thunders lost that game 74-94 to the higher-ranked Tochigi Brex (#1, 31-6). Kawasaki managed to keep the same 8th spot in Central. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 12-25 record. Johnson is a newcomer at Kawasaki and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was American Sean O'Mara (208-F/C-1995) of

Toyotsu Fighting Eagles Nagoya (#6). O'Mara scored 24 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. He was a key player of Fighting Eagles, leading his team to a 96-65 easy win against Nagasaki (16-21). The chances of FE Nagoya ranking at the top of West, however are very questionable as they have already lost 21 games, recording just sixteen victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, O'Mara could help FE Nagoya to bring them higher in the standings. O'Mara has a great season in Japan. After 27 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 9.9rpg (5th best).

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
