Okey Bakassi, the celebrated Nigerian comedian and actor, has been appointed the traditional ruler of the Umuihuocha autonomous community in Imo State. The 55-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, shared the news on social media, expressing gratitude for the honor and characterizing his new role as service to humanity.

Following his coronation, Okey Bakassi will be known as His Royal Highness Eze Okechukwu Onyegbule, the OKWE II of the Umuihuocha Obohia autonomous community. The moniker "OKWE II" indicates that Okey Bakassi is the community's second traditional king to hold this title, suggesting a lineage and continuity in the community’s royal leadership. Umuihuocha Obohia is part of the culturally rich Mbaise region and is known for its deep-rooted traditions and communal solidarity.

In a message posted on his social media, Bakassi expressed gratitude to the people of his community for believing in him and called on his brothers and sisters to unite to build a better Umuihuocha. He reflected on his childhood memories of the community and expressed his commitment to its development.
