Kenya Denies Sudan's Claims of Involvement in Conflict

The Kenyan government has dismissed a circular by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) blaming Nairobi for the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The Foreign Affairs Ministry stated that SAF’s allegations were baseless, urging people and nations of goodwill to disregard them. Kenya maintains it has worked to broker a solution within the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) framework and other regional mechanisms.

Nairobi has met with leaders from both warring sides in Nairobi, simultaneously and separately, leveraging its credentials for peaceful conflict mediation. In February, Kenya hosted the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied groups in Nairobi for the signing of a transitional constitution, aiming to progress towards forming a parallel government. Despite condemnation and perceptions of siding with one party, Kenya asserts its neutrality in resolving the conflict.

The Foreign Ministry clarified that hosting the dialogue forum in Nairobi does not equate to endorsing any forum outcome or forming an exile government. As the conflict remains unresolved, Kenya emphasizes its continued concern and active role, urging key players in Sudan to find a pathway to peaceful resolution and end the bloodshed.

The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has also dismissed claims made by Sudan’s SAF administration, which attempted to shift the blame to Kenya for the ongoing conflict. The Ministry reiterated Kenya's sole interest in a peaceful resolution. The Musalia Mudavadi-led Ministry clarified that Kenya’s leadership has never taken sides in the conflict.

The Ministry insists that as long as the conflict remains unresolved, it will continue to concern the region and the world at large. Kenya will not remain passive and has therefore urged key players in the conflict in Sudan to seek a pathway to peaceful resolution and end the bloodletting.
