JAMB's Authority Reaffirmed Amidst Admission Rumors: No Changes to Tertiary Entry

The Federal Ministry of Education has unequivocally debunked widespread reports circulating in various newspapers and online platforms that falsely claimed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer a mandatory requirement for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions. In a firm statement released on Thursday in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa (also referred to as Maruf Tunji Alausa in some reports), emphatically described these publications as false, baseless, and misleading, stressing that such information did not originate from the Ministry.
The statement, often signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, quoted Minister Alausa directly, asserting that, “At no point did the Ministry issue or authorise any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions.” This clarification directly addresses the misinformation that has caused confusion within the education sector.
Dr. Alausa further reaffirmed that JAMB remains the sole statutory and legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions across the country. He underscored that the established admission processes through JAMB are "fully operational," and any information suggesting otherwise should be disregarded in its entirety. The Ministry stressed its ongoing commitment to protecting the credibility of the admission process and ensuring that the principles of merit and fairness continue to guide all admissions into higher institutions.
Moreover, the Federal Ministry of Education reiterated its full collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies to uphold transparency, fairness, and integrity within the nation’s tertiary education admission system. All admissions, the Ministry emphasized, must continue to be guided by merit and due process, ensuring equitable opportunities for prospective students.
In light of the circulating misinformation, the Ministry issued a stern caution to media houses, bloggers, and online platforms. They were urged to meticulously verify information from official sources before publication to prevent misleading the public and causing unnecessary confusion within the vital education sector. To combat such inaccuracies, prospective students, parents, and tertiary institutions were strongly advised to rely exclusively on the official communication channels of both the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for accurate and verified information regarding admission and education policies.
The Ministry conclusively stated that there has been no alteration or change in the fundamental role of JAMB, which remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework. For authentic updates and reliable information, members of the public are encouraged to consult the official websites and social media handles of both the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB.
