Iran Suspends Cooperation with UN Nuclear Watchdog

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has officially approved a law to cease cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a move that is expected to significantly obscure any international efforts to monitor Tehran's damaged nuclear program. This decision, announced by the state-run IRNA news agency on Wednesday, follows the Iranian parliament's vote a week prior to suspend collaboration with the United Nations nuclear watchdog.
Iran has publicly stated that its rationale for this drastic measure stems from accusations that the IAEA is collaborating with Israel, thereby allegedly providing a pathway for recent strikes on its nuclear facilities. The IAEA, however, has vehemently denied these accusations. In the immediate aftermath of the approval, President Pezeshkian issued directives to Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, the Supreme National Security Council, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commence the implementation of the new law. While the specific timeline and methods for execution remain unclear, this legislative action could potentially pave the way for Iran to reconstruct and advance its nuclear program without the customary international inspections or monitoring.
