His itinerary began in Warsaw and is set to include a visit to the Polish-Belarusian border. This trip marks Bardella’s latest endeavor to bolster ties with like-minded politicians across Europe, following previous visits to Portugal, Italy, and Belgium.
In Warsaw, Bardella held a private meeting with President Karol Nawrocki, who is supported by the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party, and Krzysztof Bosak, a prominent leader of the right-wing Confederation. Following these discussions, Bardella emphasized, “European nations must take their destiny into their own hands, and in particular their autonomy, independence and freedom, and France has a role to play and new leadership to offer on the European stage.” He also expressed his honor in meeting President Nawrocki, highlighting the long-standing friendship between France and Poland and their shared challenges on the European stage. Bardella further articulated on X (formerly Twitter) that Poland is a crucial country for building a new European architecture centered on border protection and economic growth.
The French politician revealed that their intensive discussions covered the future of Europe, continental security, and the essential cooperation between France and Poland. He commended Poland as one of Europe's most dynamic countries, attributing this to its economic development and robust protection of national borders in terms of defense. Bardella also indicated a deepening cooperation on military matters between France and Poland, particularly in light of a perceived “American withdrawal” from Europe, ahead of his visit to NATO’s eastern frontier.
This political visit by the National Rally leader occurs as Poland prepares for its own parliamentary elections, scheduled for the autumn of next year. Known for his firm anti-immigration stance, Bardella’s visit will also include the Warsaw headquarters of Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, and the electronic barrier erected on Poland’s border with Belarus to curb the illegal entry of migrants. Bardella underscored the significance of his visit as “a gesture of solidarity towards a friendly country, an important European power with which France intends to work if we win the elections in a few months’ time.”
