Hollywood Horror Show: A-List Sci-Fi Remake Decimated by Critics, Scores 0% RT

A recent remake of the classic sci-fi story, "War of the Worlds," has debuted on Amazon Prime Video to an overwhelmingly negative reception, achieving a rare and dismal 0% score on the film review aggregation site, Rotten Tomatoes. Despite featuring an A-list cast including Eva Longoria and Ice Cube, and initially reaching the top three of Prime Video's daily streaming charts, the film has been met with significant backlash from both critics and viewers.

The film's performance on Rotten Tomatoes is particularly notable, as a 0% score is rarely awarded, indicating a complete consensus of negative reviews and serving as a strong recommendation against watching the movie. Other audience review platforms have also rated the film poorly, with one site showing an abysmal 13% score. Viewers who have watched the movie expressed extreme disappointment, with many describing it as "awful," "horrible," and a butchering of one of the greatest sci-fi stories ever told. Some also criticized the film for feeling like an extended commercial for Amazon-branded products, a sentiment echoed by leading publisher Variety.

Fan comments online further highlight the extent of the disappointment. One viewer stated they were "traumatised" not by the film's graphic nature, but by its sheer awfulness, likening it to a "fever dream" written by a child. Another lamented the butchering of the original story, citing bad writing as a key issue. These strong negative reactions contrast sharply with the critical reception of the 2005 adaptation starring Tom Cruise, which garnered a much more favorable 76% critical review score. Both the new remake and the 2005 film are based on the seminal 1898 novel by H.G. Wells, making the stark difference in reception even more pronounced.
