History Made: PinkPantheress Becomes First Woman to Win BRIT Awards' Producer of the Year!

PinkPantheress is set to make history at the 2026 BRIT Awards, becoming the first woman ever to receive the coveted Producer of the Year prize. The Kent-born musician, aged 24, will collect her accolade at the ceremony scheduled for this Saturday, February 28th, at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena. This achievement marks a significant moment, as the award, first introduced in 1977, has exclusively been bestowed upon male producers for nearly five decades.

Throughout its history, the Producer of the Year award has seen prominent male figures dominate the category. Paul Epworth, Eurythm’s David A. Stewart, and Trevor Horn share the record for most wins, each having claimed the prize three times. Other notable past winners include legendary figures such as Sir George Martin (1977), Brian Eno (1994, 1996), and Calvin Harris (2019). A.G. Cook, known for his contributions to Charli xcx’s 2024 LP 'brat', was the most recent recipient. While female producers like Kate Bush and Goldfrapp have received nominations over the years, none had previously managed to secure the win.

PinkPantheress's win is also notable for her age, as she becomes the youngest recipient of the award. At 24, she surpasses the previous record holder, Steve Levine, who was 25 when he won in 1984 for his work with artists like Culture Club and The Beach Boys. Since her debut release in 2021, PinkPantheress has garnered widespread recognition for her distinctive songwriting and production capabilities. She began honing her production skills at the age of 17 using GarageBand and has consistently served as the lead producer on all her recorded material.

Her discography includes the critically acclaimed 2023 LP 'Heaven Knows' and the 2025 mixtape 'Fancy That'. The latter achieved significant commercial success, reaching No. 3 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart and earning a nomination for the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2025. PinkPantheress's unique musical style, characterized by its innovative use of samples and clear influences from scenes such as U.K. garage and rave, has earned her considerable praise. She also achieved a No. 3 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2023 with her collaboration with Ice Spice on "Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2."

Reflecting on this groundbreaking recognition, PinkPantheress expressed her gratitude, stating, "As the first woman to win this award, I’m grateful to be recognized. My music production is the thing I’m proudest of, and I’ve worked really hard at it, so I hope this inspires others to pursue their passion." She will be honored alongside other esteemed individuals at the upcoming ceremony, including Mark Ronson, who will receive the outstanding contribution to music prize, and Noel Gallagher, who is set to be awarded songwriter of the year despite recent controversy. The event will also highlight Olivia Dean and Lola Young, who lead with five nominations each, with Dean confirmed to perform alongside artists such as Harry Styles, Wolf Alice, Rosalía, and Alex Warren.
