Heroic Rescue Hailed: 400 Captives Freed in Ngoshe!

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South in the National Assembly, has issued a profound commendation to the Nigerian military, the Borno State Government, and various other essential stakeholders for their instrumental roles in the successful rescue of over 400 individuals held captive in the Ngoshe community, located within the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. This significant operation, which saw the liberation of primarily women and children who had endured months of insurgency captivity, has been lauded as a major breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.

Ndume emphasized that the triumph of this rescue mission is a direct reflection of the significantly improved synergy and collaborative spirit among security forces, local vigilante groups, and the government's intelligence structures. He underscored the critical importance of such cooperation, stating, “This rescue proves that when security agencies and communities work together, we can defeat terrorism.” The senator's remarks, made in a statement on Sunday, expressed immense joy and gratitude, particularly acknowledging the Nigerian Army, including the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the GOC 7th Division in Maiduguri, and the Commander of the 26 Task Force Brigade in Gwoza, for their meticulously coordinated efforts.

Recalling the harrowing details, Ndume noted that the mass abduction initially occurred on March 3, 2026, when Boko Haram terrorists launched a violent assault on the Ngoshe community and a nearby military base in Gwoza LGA, leading to the capture of numerous civilians. While some victims had been rescued previously in isolated operations around the treacherous Mandara Mountains, the latest mass release represents the most substantial success to date in freeing the Ngoshe captives. He also extended his appreciation to Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for his unwavering support of military operations and the extensive reconstruction initiatives in communities liberated from insurgent control.

Beyond the immediate celebration, Senator Ndume outlined crucial next steps for the freed captives, advocating for the urgent provision of medical attention, comprehensive psychosocial support, and robust reintegration programs. These measures are deemed vital to assist the survivors in recovering from their traumatic ordeal and smoothly re-entering society. Furthermore, he commended Hajiya Zubaida Umar, the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), for her prompt action in releasing much-needed relief materials to displaced persons, demonstrating a responsive humanitarian effort.

Looking ahead, Ndume urged security agencies to intensify their operations with a specific focus on rescuing the 42 schoolchildren recently abducted from Mussa village in Askira-Uba Local Government Area, as well as any other individuals still held captive by insurgent groups. He also called upon the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to complement the Borno State Government’s efforts in rebuilding and rehabilitating Ngoshe and other communities that have borne the brunt of attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents, highlighting the long-term commitment required for recovery and peace.
