Governor's Fury: Ebonyi Rocked by Deadly Communal Clashes, Top Officials Sacked!

Ebonyi State is grappling with the aftermath of a renewed deadly communal clash in the Edda Local Government Area, which resulted in the killing of at least four people. The incident, confirmed by the state police command, occurred on January 29 in Okporojo village within the Oso Edda community. Assailants, reportedly from the Ndukwe community in the Amasiri clan of Afikpo Local Government Area, are alleged to have carried out the attack, during which three victims were brutally beheaded, and another succumbed to injuries while receiving hospital treatment. The violence also left a trail of destruction, including several mud houses set ablaze, windows of a church building vandalized, and harvested paddy rice destroyed.
In a decisive and stern response, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State on Saturday ordered the immediate dissolution of the traditional and political leadership structures of the Amasiri clan. During an on-the-spot assessment visit to Okporojo, where he met with residents, community leaders, security agencies, and government officials, Governor Nwifuru announced the withdrawal of the staff of office from all traditional rulers in Amasiri. He further sacked all political appointees from the clan, including the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof Amari Omaka, and other government officials.
