Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, a prominent Kenyan clinical psychologist and mental-health researcher, was tragically shot dead in Nairobi on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. Her burial took place at her husband's home in Wanzauni village, Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County, where her nuclear family lamented the profound loss of a cherished matriarch and a vital pillar of their lives.
During the sorrowful burial ceremony, her husband, Prof. David Musyimi Ndetei, poured out a heartfelt tribute, describing Dr. Mutiso as the very engine that propelled their family forward and his soulmate in every aspect. He highlighted her unwavering support and her role in raising model children who embodied love and respect. Despite the immense pain, Prof. Ndetei expressed forgiveness towards the perpetrators of the heinous murder, stating, "Yes, we are hurting very much, but I have forgiven those who hurt my family beyond what our minds would comprehend. We hold no bitterness against them. God's purpose will prevail and it is Him who will avenge for us."
His sentiments were deeply echoed by their son, David Musyimi Ndetei Jnr, who remembered his mother as not only a loving parent but also a significant source of inspiration. He described her as an "amazing woman, a wonderful mom," emphasizing that she was his first call whenever he needed comfort. He lamented that her killers deprived their family of a dependable source of joy, noting that "On that fateful day, my mother left a world that was full of chaos, a world that was cruel to one of the sweetest souls that the sun has ever sustained."
Dr. Christine Wayua Musyimi, Ndetei's elder sister, shared the profound emotional toll her mother's killing had taken on the family. She spoke of crying multiple times but finding peace and a quiet confirmation that her mother was at rest. Dr. Wayua eulogized her mother as a brilliant woman, a mentor, and a personal stylist, whose ideas she often borrowed. She wore a dress her mother had gifted her for her birthday, wearing it to celebrate her memory.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has announced a significant breakthrough in the murder probe, which investigators are treating as a possible targeted killing. DCI boss Mohammed Amin revealed that three National Police Service officers have been identified as key suspects in the murder, with one allegedly pulling the trigger. Additionally, two other individuals are in custody for their alleged roles in the crime: the rider of the motorcycle that carried the assassin and the driver of the Toyota Prado that reportedly blocked the taxi Dr. Mutiso was using shortly before she was shot. The DCI is also investigating a possible link between Dr. Mutiso's murder and the murder of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu on September 9, 2025.
